“I need some time,” Iga Świątek said of her decision to withdraw from the WTA 1000 tournament, which starts on Monday in Wuhan, China.
“I need some time” – commented Iga Świątek on her decision to withdraw from the WTA 1000 tournament, which will start on Monday in Wuhan, China. The leader of the ranking of tennis players noted that she now devotes her energy mainly to efficiently coping with the process of changing the coach.
On Friday morning, Świątek announced the end of her almost three-year training cooperation with Tomasz Wiktorowski, under whose leadership she won, among others, four Grand Slam titles and a total of 19 out of 22 in her professional career, and she won this year in Paris
Two hours later, the organizers of the event in Wuhan announced that the Pole would not play in the event starting on Monday. This decision was commented on by the person concerned herself, and her statement was sent by her manager, Paula Wolecka. “After a very important change occurred in my sports team, I decided to withdraw from the tournament in Wuhan. I am sad because I know that fans in China and beyond are waiting to see me on the court, but I really hope that everyone will understand that I need some time. My team and I are now devoting time and energy to smoothly go through this important process of changing the tennis coach,” Świątek commented. At the same time, Wolecka clarified the morning message, informing that “apart from the coach, the composition of the sports staff remains unchanged.” Recently, the 23-year-old tennis player also withdrew from tournaments in Seoul and Beijing. In the first case, it was explained by fatigue, in the second – by personal reasons. She has not played in an official WTA match since September 5, when she lost to American Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals of the US Open Grand Slam.
