Iga Swiatek is the latest star to withdraw from the WTA 500 event in Seoul with the Korean Open losing all four top-10 players ahead of the tournament.
Chaos has struck the Korean Open with a string of top-10 withdrawals turning the tournament on its head.
Scheduled to start next week in Seoul, the WTA 500 event now faces a depleted draw, notably lacking world No. 1 Iga Swiatek. This news comes just a day after other big names exited the lineup.
Swiatek’s withdrawal from the Korea Open, which is marking its inaugural year as a 500-point event, broke shortly before kickoff.
“My physical condition has not yet returned to normal since the US Open. I cannot go to Seoul. Please understand that I have no choice but to change my schedule,” Swiatek communicated to Tennis Korea. “I definitely want to visit Seoul next year and play a great match in front of Korean fans.”
This development follows the withdrawal of defending champion Jessica Pegula. After a historic run to her first Grand Slam final at the U.S. Open, Pegula cited a rib injury for her absence.
