Iga Swiatek names the rival player on the WTA Tour who she would pick to become her new coach

Iga Swiatek shared which player from the WTA Tour she would like to coach her.

The 23-year-old currently has one of the most respected and accomplished coaches in the game in her corner, Wim Fissette.

She is working on improving the level of play on hard and grass courts, and she has been rather solid on the concrete this season.

Iga Swiatek has reached the semi-final or better at each of her completed tournaments in 2025, and she is currently on a quest to win the Dubai Tennis Championships.

Which WTA player would Iga Swiatek like to coach her?

There have been some truly all-star tennis coaching partnerships through the years, such as Novak Djokovic and Boris Becker, and Stefan Edberg coaching Roger Federer.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic is now being coached by former rival Andy Murray in a move that shocked the tennis world.

Therefore, keen to get some insights from other players, a reporter from Arab News asked Swiatek at the Dubai Open which player she would like to coach her, and she picked a retired player and another who is her direct rival.

“Petkovic is not playing anymore but I heard she has a really great eye and I have always liked her, so I think we would get along,” Swiatek said.

“And maybe Aryna. She’s older than me so maybe she is going to finish earlier and that would be fun.”

Iga Swiatek continues keeps possible Aryna Sabalenka Dubai Open final alive

While Swiatek would like Aryna Sabalenka to be her coach in the future, at present they are the top two players in the WTA Tour rankings.

The Belarusian claimed the number one ranking from Swiatek after wining the Wuhan Open in October 2023. The pair are currently competing in Dubai and could face one another in the final.

Swiatek continued her march to the championship match with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Dayana Yastremska in one hour and 32 minutes.

“I knew I had many opportunities to break Dayana on her serve, so I just wanted to be consistent with my service games and I knew the chances are going to come,” Swiatek said.

“We have many girls on tour right now who are heavy hitters and they risk it. If it’s in, it’s impossible to get it. If it’s out, you grab these points and be grateful for them. It’s not easy — you have to have a lot of patience and acceptance.”
