Iga Swiatek pays tribute to Caroline Garcia for speaking up against disgusting messages she received after losing at the US Open

Iga Swiatek, the world’s top tennis player, has shown support for Caroline Garcia after the French player faced online abuse following her US Open loss. Garcia, who was the 28th seed, lost unexpectedly to Renata Zarazua from Mexico in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday, (August 27).

Garcia shared images of four out of the many abusive messages she received on social media after her defeat. Swiatek praised the World No.30 for addressing the issue publicly and understanding her feelings from personal experience.

In addition to Swiatek, British player Katie Boulter also expressed support for Garcia. American players Madison Keys and Jessica Pegula joined in, offering their encouragement to the 30-year-old.

Although Garcia was defeated in singles, she will continue at the US Open in the women’s doubles. She and her partner, Danielle Collins, will compete against Anna Sinclair Rogers and Alana Smith in their first round.
