David Beckham’s name could be used to sell products including curtains and nappies in Russia after a company managing his brand successfully applied for trademark rights.
An application was filed by DB Ventures last summer and approved last week, according to paperwork published in Russia.
It grants trademark rights for the former England captain’s name to be used to sell dozens of products in Russia under the Beckham brand, such as yoga mats, pet blankets, bed linen and sleeping bags.
Other items include Beckham-branded beer mug mats, nappies and “loose cotton fabric for making cheese”.
The company that owns DB Ventures said the move to secure a trademark was a “routine” part of protecting the Beckham brand overseas.
It comes after Britain restricted businesses from engaging with some Russian individuals, companies, and entities that are subject to sanctions, largely centred on banking, energy and technology.
As a result, many companies voluntarily ceased operations in Russia due to potential legal risks.
DB Ventures has not broken any laws or sanctions.
The Beckham family was publicly supportive of Ukraine after the 2022 invasion.
In March 2022, Beckham handed over his Instagram account, which had more than 71 million followers at the time, to a Ukrainian doctor to highlight the reality of medical work during war.
