Nelly Korda, one of the top names in women’s golf, recently took a trip to the Maldives that turned into an unforgettable—and downright shocking—experience. The idyllic island getaway, known for its crystal-clear waters and luxury resorts, wasn’t exactly the relaxing vacation the 25-year-old champion had imagined.
Korda, who is usually in the spotlight for her incredible golf skills, revealed that her trip took a terrifying turn when she had an unexpected encounter with a massive, aggressive shark while swimming in the ocean. “It was one of those moments where everything stops,” Korda explained. “I was just swimming, and out of nowhere, this huge shark came up so close—it felt like a scene from a movie.”
While Korda’s natural instinct was to swim back to the safety of the shore, the close call left her shaken, though not injured. “It was all just a blur, but I’m thankful nothing happened. I’ve always loved the ocean, but after that, I have a bit more respect for its power.”
Despite the scare, the world-class athlete made sure to reassure fans, saying she was doing just fine and laughing off the ordeal. “I guess I’ll stick to the golf course for now,” Korda joked.
This close encounter with the ocean’s predators has certainly added a new chapter to her adventure-filled life. After all, the Maldives might be a paradise—but even paradise can have its surprises!
