Mel B says David Beckham thought her ‘abusive’ ex-husband Stephan Belafonte was ‘bad news’ when they were together as the Spice Girl admits she was left ‘humiliated’ after they met
Mel B has revealed that David Beckham thought her ‘abusive’ ex-husband Stephen Belafonte was ‘bad news’ while they were married.
The Spice Girl, 49, has detailed that her bandmate Victoria Beckham’s husband David, 49, shared his real thoughts about her ex from their first meeting.
Mel accused Stephen of being abusive and controlling during their relationship, which she has discussed in interviews and her biography.
Stephen has denied the claims and has filed a £3.9million defamation lawsuit in the U.S. against his ex-wife, who he was married to from 2007 until 2017 and shares daughter Madison, 13, with.
Writing in her 2018 autobiography Brutally Honest, Mel said Stephen would ‘badger her to introduce’ him to the England football legend leaving her ‘humiliated’.
Mel wrote: ‘David turned up at one point in the late afternoon with [sons] Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz.
‘But as everyone rushed to coo over each other’s kids, Stephen had his eyes fixed on David. He had been badgering me to introduce him for months.
‘”Get Beckham to meet up with us”, he’d say every time I was going to call Vic. “We should go out on our own with them. Can’t you even sort that out, Melanie? I thought she was meant to be your friend”.
‘”They’re busy”, I’d tell him week after week. “They’re not around”. I didn’t want to put them through a night with Stephen. Would you?’
She continued: ‘I have known David since he and Vic first got together when he was this shy twenty-one-year-old completely besotted with Posh Spice.
‘Back then we’d vet each other’s boyfriends – often giving them the Spanish Inquisition when we were all together. Poor guys.
‘David got an easier time than most because Vic fell for him straight away. “Don’t be mean to him”, she’d say, so I’d just tease him gently about his hair or his clothes – something VERY mild for me. But David is still David. He’s pretty unassuming. There’s still that shyness in him, and he’s most relaxed around his kids.’
