Iga Swiatek matches Serena Williams and Steffi Graf record after her 2024 season ends

Iga Swiatek will perhaps have mixed feelings about her season, despite storming to a fifth Grand Slam title at the French Open.

Swiatek labelled her season ‘extraordinary’, with the Pole having won five WTA Tour titles, more than any other player.

At the same time, however, Swiatek lost her number one spot to rival Aryna Sabalenka, having spent a large chunk of the season at the summit of women’s tennis.

Andrea Petkovic compared Swiatek to Rafael Nadal following his retirement, with the Spaniard having called time on his career after Spain’s early Davis Cup exit.

His glittering career has now finished, but Swiatek still has a long, long way to go given how the five-time Grand Slam champion is remarkably only 23.

The Pole is also an Olympic bronze medalist, with her stunning achievements in 2024 helping her keep tabs on several tennis legends.

As per OptaAce, she is now the fifth player in the Open Era with the outright most seasonal titles for three or more consecutive years.

Also achieving the feat were Chris Evert (1974-1977), Martina Navratilova (1978-1986), Steffi Graf (1987-1990) and Serena Williams (2012-2015).

What did Iga Swiatek achieve in superb 2024 season?

Swiatek will perhaps remember her French Open win most fondly, with her victory over Jasmine Paolini representing a third consecutive Roland Garros success.

The former world number one also lifted the iconic trophy in 2020, with the 2022 US Open title completing her five-star Grand Slam haul.

Swiatek has won all five of her major singles finals, with the five successes coming against different opponents, and only one going into a deciding set.
