WHEN DO ANDY MURRAY AND NOVAK DJOKOVIC START WORKING TOGETHER? WHEN IS THEIR FIRST TOURNAMENT IN 2025?
When will Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray start working together and when will their first tournament in 2025 be? Murray is set to be Djokovic’s coach at the Australian Open in a shock move ahead of the new season. Three-time major champion Murray, who retired from tennis after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, will now join one of his great rivals as the Serbian bids for more glory on the court.
Novak Djokovic will bid for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open with Andy Murray in his corner.
The long-time rivals will join forces in Melbourne after Djokovic hired Murray as his coach.
It will be one of the most intriguing player-coach pairings in tennis history.
But when does the partnership between Djokovic and Murray actually start and when will their first tournament together be?
WHEN WILL MURRAY START WORKING WITH DJOKOVIC?
Murray ended his tennis career in the summer after competing at the Paris Olympics.
He has opted to quickly try his hand at coaching and is set to work with Djokovic as he gets ready for a tilt for the Australian Open.
“I’m going to be joining Novak’s team in the off-season, helping him to prepare for the Australian Open,” said Murray.
“I’m really excited for it.”
While the 2024 season has just finished with the conclusion of the Davis Cup, there are only six weeks until the start of the 2025 Australian Open.
That means Murray and Djokovic may already start getting to work on preparing for the new season.
Djokovic’s off-season training last year included travelling to Marbella, Spain and then heading to Dubai in mid-December with his coaching team.
WHEN IS DJOKOVIC’S FIRST TOURNAMENT OF 2025?
It has not been confirmed yet where Djokovic will start his 2025 season.
He has said, though, that he intends to play in the first week of the year before the Australian Open, which starts on January 12.
“Tennis is still my focus,” he said last month.
“I am going at full throttle in the off-season, we go for another ride. I just needed to recharge and refresh a bit after an exhausting year.

Murray to coach Djokovic at Australian Open
“I am going to play in the first week of the season, I am just not sure yet where. Then, of course, Australian Open.”
Djokovic did not play ahead of this year’s Australian Open but in 2023 won Adelaide to start the season and then lifted the title in Melbourne.
DJOKOVIC TARGETS RECORD-BREAKING GRAND SLAM
Djokovic finished the season without a Grand Slam title for the first time since 2017 and without multiple titles for the first time since 2005.
He remains tied with Margaret Court for the most Grand Slam wins in history on 24.
His best hope of winning No. 25 might be the Australian Open, which has been his most successful Grand Slam with 10 triumphs.
Djokovic admitted in October that he has been hit by the retirements of Murray, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal from the sport.
“We knew that that moment is coming sooner than later but it’s still a shock,” he said after Nadal announced his retirement.
“Also for Roger a few years ago when he announced retirement, and Andy as well this year. It’s a bit overwhelming for me. I don’t know what to make out of it. I still enjoy competing but part of me left with them, a big part of me.”
