Meghan Markle’s £130,000 With Love wardrobe: Duchess shows off an array of designer outfits in Netflix series as she adopts ‘stealth wealth’ style trend

As a bee alights on a sunflower in the Californian sunshine we hear the first words from Meghan Markle.
‘The biggest thing is keeping a low tone,’ she says as she walks towards a hive, home to thousands of bees.
Meghan is collecting honey – and she does so wearing a beekeeper’s coat, gold earrings, Mother Denim jeans and Le Chameau quilted ‘Jameson’ leather boots.
A ‘low tone’ is a good way to describe much of Meghan’s wardrobe throughout the eight-part Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, which launched yesterday.
Every scene is filled with simple, elevated pieces that whisper old money – a £21,400 Cartier Tank Francaise watch, cashmere separates, silk skirts.
The aesthetic is ‘stealth wealth’, the trend that belongs to people so at ease with their status that they dispense with any obvious designer insignia.
Meghan has always been something of a clothes horse. Back in her ‘royal’ days it was Aquazzura stilettos and figure-hugging Victoria Beckham dresses. Now the look is looser, softer.
In the same way that Meghan’s recipes and crafting ideas in With Love are meant to be ‘easy aspirational’ – a fruit salad made to look like a rainbow; a pasta dish made with cherry tomatoes and little else – so, too, is her wardrobe. There are lots of shirts, as well as jeans, sandals and even bare feet.
But look closer and you’ll see that it’s an illusion, much like the rental which stands in for Meghan and Harry’s home.
This is a wardrobe filled with designer pieces. The colour palette is rarefied – pristine white shirts paired with £489 cream Zimmermann shorts worn (without an apron!) when making a spaghetti dish.
Throughout the outfit changes – there are five in one episode alone – Meghan does let a bit of ‘ordinary’ slip in, like a £101 brown Zara dress.
And, while there has been a huge amount of eye-rolling over this series, Meghan’s style is probably the least problematic thing about it.
Yes, it’s expensive. Yes, it’s not how any other mother would dress to bake cakes. Yes, cream palazzo pants are not what I would wear to waltz around picking flowers.
But this is Meghan. She is no ordinary homemaker. She is light years away from that actress in ripped jeans and a white shirt who we first spied at the Invictus Games in 2017.
