Celebs like Beckhams ‘turning Cotswolds into theme park’

Nadine Dorries has claimed that celebrities such as David and Victoria Beckham are turning the Cotswolds into a “theme park”.

The former politician, who lives in Gloucestershire, was writing in her MailOnline column in reaction to reports that Oasis star Liam Gallagher was looking for a home nearby.

Other celebrities including Jeremy Clarkson, David and Victoria Beckham, Ellen DeGeneres, Amanda Holden and Portia de Rossi all now live in the Cotswolds too.

DJ Calvin Harris and his wife, TV presenter Vick Hope, are the latest to move in with the finishing touches being made to their country house.

Ms Dorries said: “Stop treating my beautiful Cotswolds like a theme park.

“Celebrities are two-a-penny here. I was in the pub just the other day, eating lunch with a friend when I caught a glimpse of a glamorous Amanda Holden striding through the bar modelling Max Mara.

“Not a single head turned to look. To me, the only surprise is there are any manor houses left for sale. Or that the so-called ‘stars’ want to come here in the first place.”

Despite her criticisms of some celebrities, the 67-year-old praised Mr Clarkson and Blur’s Alex James for being respected locally.

Both have established businesses which employ a local workforce and have helped the local economy notes Ms Dorries.

To Liam Gallagher, she said: “Be more like Clarkson and your old rival Alex James and there’s even a chance you’ll fit right in.”
