Victoria Beckham’s fears: ‘I can’t cope with another scandal’
Victoria is afraid the Spice Girls won’t behave themselves at her A-list bash
If there’s one thing Victoria Beckham can do well, it’s throw an epic party. And while husband David’s milestone 50th birthday isn’t for another few months, Vic is already in full planning mode. However, the guest list is proving to be more difficult than she anticipated – namely because of her squabbling ex-bandmates.
Since David hit it out of the park for her 50th bash last April, we’re told the pressure is mounting for this to be the perfect celebration – and she’s determined to keep it drama-free. A source says, ‘Victoria is already planning David’s birthday in May and she wants to pull out all the stops for him, just like he did for her. She’s organising a family holiday and a romantic trip for just the two of them, and she also wants to throw him a huge, star-studded party. There will be lots of A-list names there, but she is torn about which Spice Girls to invite.’
While all four of Victoria’s fellow Spice Girls – Emma Bunton, 48, Mel B, 49, Mel C, 51, and Geri Horner, 52 – attended her 50th birthday party, scandal seems to follow the group everywhere they go, which Vic doesn’t want at David’s big bash. There has reportedly been an ongoing feud between Mel B and Geri for years, rooted in the fact that Geri remains adamant there will never be a Spice Girls reunion, much to Mel B’s annoyance. And the drama kicked off again recently when Mel B claimed she had been kicked out of the band’s WhatsApp chat for suggesting a reunion tour, saying she was booted out ‘because they’re dickheads’. All that drama could make a joint appearance at David’s 50th uncomfortable for Victoria.
Our source continues, ‘In an ideal world, Victoria would just invite Emma and Mel C, but she knows it would cause havoc if she didn’t invite Geri and Mel B. Victoria always feels a bit on edge around those two, but she knows that all the Spice Girls played a big part in her early romance with David and would feel bad if they weren’t all there.’
Victoria has had a difficult relationship with Geri at times, dating back to when the latter abruptly quit the Spice Girls in 1998. At the time, Victoria said, ‘When Geri left the group, it was bad. She left on my birthday and didn’t tell anybody. She didn’t show up. We had the American part of the tour to continue.’
Their friction then came to a head during the highly publicised 2019 reunion tour. While Mel B called out Victoria on Loose Women for being ‘difficult’, it was allegedly the fights between Posh and Ginger that were the reason Vic eventually decided not to join her friends on stage. A source at the time said, ‘Those two couldn’t be more divided and both see themselves as the boss. Everyone involved is braced for some epic arguments.’
