Iga Swiatek asked if she ‘enjoys being ruthless’ after Emma Raducanu demolition at Australian Open
Iga Swiatek addressed whether she enjoys being ruthless after she destroyed Emma Raducanu in the third round of the 2025 Australian Open.
The five-time Grand Slam champion crushed Raducanu 6-1, 6-0 on Rod Laver Arena, winning 11 straight games after Raducanu held serve in the second game of the match.
Swiatek broke the world No 61 five times and did not face a break point as she stormed to victory in an hour and 10 minutes.
The world No 2 has improved her head-to-head record against Raducanu to 4-0, and she has never lost a set against the 22-year-old Brit.
In her post-match press conference, Swiatek was asked if she enjoys being ruthless and whether she takes extra satisfaction from winning a set 6-0.
“Well, I don’t take it personal, kinda, so I wouldn’t say I’m ruthless,” Swiatek said.
“I just try to have the same kind of attitude and the same kind of focus no matter what the score is. But it’s not like I want to, you know, show something. I’m just playing my game and if it’s working, why stop?

“I [have] also seen many matches when someone was back being down like 2-5 or something. You always have to just keep going. It’s not over till it’s over.”
The 23-year-old Pole will face 128th-ranked lucky loser Eva Lys in the last 16 as she continues her bid for a maiden Australian Open crown.
Swiatek also spoke about the differences between how she is performing this year to at the 2024 Australian Open — when she was upset in the third round by Linda Noskova.
“For sure, last year I think it was the toughest Australian Open I ever had. Like, the draw was pretty unlucky for me. But, I mean, still, if you play well, you’re able to get through that,” the four-time French Open winner said.
“I remember I was just tight, didn’t move well. Also [I] had some things that bothered me like physically, as well. Now I feel much more fresh.
“I feel like everything is in the right spot and working. I can just focus on the game, and that’s it. I don’t need to fight through some stuff. I feel less stress… For sure, I felt great. I felt like the ball is listening to me.”
