“It was a huge adjustment for me” – Nelly Korda gets candid about playing on the LPGA Tour without her sister, Jessica
Nelly Korda recently spoke about her first experience of playing on the LPGA Tour without her sister, Jessica Korda. She mentioned that, initially, it was a huge adjustment for her due to her shy nature.
Nelly Korda is a 15-time winner on the LPGA Tour and is currently ranked No. 1 in the Rolex Women’s Golf Rankings. Her elder sister, Jessica, is also a six-time winner but has been out of action since 2023 for various reasons.
Recently, Korda joined Gary Williams on Golf Channel’s 5 Clubs show, where she spoke candidly about different topics. During the interview, Williams asked Korda about her experience of competing on Tour without her sister’s presence.
“In 2023, I felt the biggest adjustment because that’s when she got injured in like May,” she replied. “For me, not having her out there, not having a dinner buddy—an automatic dinner buddy—I was definitely feeling lucky for the years prior when I had her.
“It was a huge adjustment for me in 2023 because I’m a little bit of a shy person, so I don’t necessarily make the easiest friends. Having Jess out there was always such a safe buffer for me, and I didn’t feel lonely. It was definitely a big adjustment for me in 2023.”
However, Nelly added that 2024 was less struggling since she had her parents joining her on Tour a few times. She also mentioned that following the birth of her nephew Greyson, Jessica also accompanied her several times.
“I’m definitely more grateful when they do come out. I soak it up a little bit more because you take it for granted a little,” she added.
