David Beckham’s Christmas ad reported to authorities after fans spot ‘dangerous’ detail
Beckham starred in the commercial after signing a reported £1 million endorsement deal
David Beckham’s new Christmas advert has been reported to the Advertising Standards Authority after it appeared to show him using a wood-fired outdoor oven indoors.
The former Manchester United midfielder, 49, used the Ninja appliance to cook a turkey inside a festively decorated kitchen in the new 30-second clip.
Critics pointed out that the £350 oven is primarily for outdoor use and reported the commercial to the authorities.
One wrote on YouTube: “You’d be forgiven for thinking [the oven could be used indoors] based on the advert. It can’t.”
They added that they had contacted Ninja and were referred to the ASA.
Ninja’s user manual reads: “DO NOT use indoors. If used under overhead cover, toxic fumes, including carbon monoxide, may accumulate and cause serious bodily injury or death.”
The ASA told The Sun they were “carefully assessing” a series of complaints claiming the ad is misleading.
A Ninja spokesperson stressed that Beckham was actually cooking in an outdoor kitchen.
“David Beckham was cooking in an outdoor kitchen during the filming of this advert, in compliance with the Woodfire Outdoor Oven’s usage instructions,” they told the outlet.
“The advert was cleared by Clearcast before airing.”
Beckham signed a reported £1 million deal to become the face of kitchen appliance brand Ninja in May.
The England star revealed in last year’s Beckham Netflix documentary that he enjoys spending time in his £50,000 barbecue tent in the evenings.
