Nelly Korda’s Boldness Wooed Charley Hull, But She Never Idiolized the World No.1 Because of One Personal Reason
The 2024 Solheim Cup cannot be forgotten so soon. As the American Team raised the glass trophy, cheers erupted from the crowd, celebrating their sweet revenge after the Europeans fell short with a score of 12.5, while the USA claimed victory with a resounding 15.5. While the red, blue, and white won the event, the most anticipated singles match of the Solheim Cup was indeed between Charley Hull and Nelly Korda. The world no. 1 has to face a crushing defeat of 6 & 4, as Hull didn’t give her a chance to get ahead of her. And now, it seems the two will be playing with each other once again!
After 36 holes, Hull has taken the lead at the Annika Driven with two rounds of 64-66 while Korda follows her at solo second with an 8 under 132 scorecard. Certainly, the two will tee up on Saturday together, but their tee times aren’t released as the second round was suspended due to darkness, with three golfers left to continue their rounds. Nonetheless, Hull was asked at the press conference if she would take notes from Korda. Recovering from her neck injury, which she believed was a bit rushed because she wanted to play in the last two events, Nelly Korda is still playing better than most expected of her. And that’s because of her familiarity with the course. Even with windy and unpredictable conditions, Korda noted, “I just kind of know the holes where you kind of have to be safe and the holes where you can be a little bit more aggressive.”
On the other hand, it took Charley Hull two years to win again in her career as she emerged victorious at the Aramco Team Series in Riyadh and won an Aramco event for the second time. Coming off a victory, Hull is definitely in her best form to win on the LPGA Tour as well. However, as someone who has won at the Pelican Golf Club before, wouldn’t it be helpful to have Nelly Korda with her? Although many would’ve believed it, for Hull it is about playing her own game. Talking about taking notes from Korda’s game, the 2-time LPGA Tour winner said, “Not really. I don’t really watch players play golf too much. I’m in my own little bubble.” Regardless of that, Hull expressed that she liked Korda and her game.
