Andy Murray’s former coach has suggested drastic change which could transform the ATP and WTA Finals tournaments

With the tennis season nearing its conclusion, the ATP and WTA tours are expecting several major changes to be introduced in 2025.

The WTA Finals came to a dramatic close on Saturday as Coco Gauff rallied back to become the youngest champion since Maria Sharapova in 2004.

A gutted Qinwen Zheng couldn’t capitalize on her early hard work to get herself over the finish line.

The ATP Finals has followed with Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz, and Alexander Zverev notching up routine wins, while Casper Ruud shocked Carlos Alcaraz.

Next year is already set to be just as competitive as 2024, despite some new rules and changes – many of which seem incredibly unpopular.

A new ITF off-court coaching change will be introduced, while Wimbledon is set to deviate from an 147-year tradition by scrapping the use of line judges.

Recent hysteria over plans to extend Masters events to two-weeks have caused the likes of Andy Roddick significant grief, while Stefanos Tsitsipas has u-turned on his original opinion.

Now, with the year-end finals coming in quick-succession, Andy Murray’s former coach Mark Petchey has criticised the current state of affairs and proposed a drastic change.

With both the WTA and ATP Finals scheduled consecutively, the tennis calendar is packed, leaving little room for rest or for fans to catch their breath before the new season begins.
