Aryna Sabalenka reacts on social media after overtaking Iga Swiatek to become WTA number one
Aryna Sabalenka has leapfrogged Iga Swiatek to the top of the WTA rankings.
The battle for year-end world number one status has taken another turn.
While Iga Swiatek has taken some time off and undergone a coaching change, Aryna Sabalenka has kept her foot on the gas.
The Belarusian has won three titles in her last four events, with defeat in the quarter-finals her sole defeat in the last 21 matches.
Having never finished the year as the world number one, Sabalenka is desperate not to let her advantage slip.

After months and months of being the chaser, Sabalenka will now have to defend her slender lead.
Just 41 points ahead of the Pole, Sabalenka’s Australian and US Open titles have helped boost her up to the top.
Despite having been at number one before, the Belarusian has never produced a lengthy stint there, unlike Swiatek who had only last been dethroned over a year ago.
On X, Sabalenka wrote: “N1…. Let’s see for how long this time.”
