Amid Harsh Criticism on Iga Swiatek’s Psychologist, ATP Star Hubert Hurkacz Dishes Out Brutally Honest Opinion on Tennis Entourages

The Paris Olympics 2024 brought a massive opportunity for Iga Swiatek. While fans were expecting a massive result from the Roland Garros champion, her unexpected defeat against Qinwen Zheng led her to a disturbing phase. The WTA star is currently doing everything she can to rise back. With Naomi Osaka’s ex-coach Wim Fissette by her side, things started seeming way clearer. Even after that, debates continued to surround rumors about her psychologist’s role in the recent coach split. Amid the allegations, compatriot Hubert Hurkacz has now come forward to defend the World No. 1.

Hubert Hurkacz recently weighed in on the ongoing discussions surrounding Iga Świątek’s psychologist, Daria Abramowicz, and her controversial role in the Pole’s team. Indulging in a conversation with Wyborcza.pl, Hurkacz, shared that he too benefits from working with a psychologist, though in a different way. “I also work with a psychologist. And many athletes benefit from such help,” Hurkacz stated, highlighting that psychological support has become a valuable tool for many athletes in handling the pressures of professional sports.
“Not with such intensity as Iga, on whose matches psychologist Daria Abramowicz sits next to the coach,” the journalists of Wyborcza.pl stated about Abramowicz’s presence during Świątek’s matches. Hurkacz had an apt response to this. He was quick to point out that each athlete’s needs are different and the level of involvement from a psychologist can vary. “This is an individual matter. Every athlete must decide what he needs. How close is the psychologist to be. It is important that there is good communication and well-coordinated cooperation in the team: from a masseur, a physiotherapist, a psychologist to a coach,” Hurkacz said.
