Andy Murray swaps tennis for golf and snags his first trophy on the green
Andy Murray, after retiring from tennis, has quickly found success in golf by winning his first trophy at a celebrity tournament.
Andy Murray is proving he’s still got that winning touch—just with a different sport. After retiring from professional tennis this summer, the 37-year-old has swapped his racquet for golf clubs, and he’s already making waves.
Since stepping away from tennis after the Olympics in August, Murray has thrown himself into mastering golf. Once known for his simple Twitter bio, “I play tennis,” it now cheekily reads, “I played tennis. I now play golf.”
The competitive spirit that made him a tennis legend is now fueling his new mission: getting his golf handicap down to scratch in the next few years.
Last month, Murray impressed at the BMW PGA Championship’s Pro-Am event, playing alongside fellow Scotsman and pro golfer Bob MacIntyre.
And just this week, he secured his first piece of golf silverware at the inaugural BTJA Mike Dickson Golf Day, held at Hanbury Manor Golf Club in Hertfordshire.
The event, honoring late sports journalist Mike Dickson, saw Murray showcase his new skills on the green, reminding everyone he’s still a force to be reckoned with—no matter the sport.
