David Beckham Knew He’d Marry Victoria Beckham After Watching This Spice Girls Music Video

Before David Beckham even met his now-wife, Victoria Beckham, he predicted that he would marry her. During an appearance on The Life of Mine With James Corden on SiriusXM on Thursday, March 21, 2024, the former professional soccer player reflected on the first time he saw Victoria: on his television screen when a music video for “Say You’ll Be There” by the Spice Girls, her band, was playing. “I was [sitting] in my room with Gary Neville, and it came on the tele, and that was when I turned around to Gary and said, ‘I’m gonna marry that one in the short black dress,’” he recalled, later noting that her outfit was actually a “black catsuit.” To this day, that hit track is still his favorite song by the girl group.

Before forming a relationship and really getting to know Victoria, David told host James Corden that he was just drawn to her. “I really just fancied her,” he shared. “I did. I just fancied her. I didn’t know what she was like as a person. I just actually fancied her like most people did at the time, and I didn’t know who I was marrying [or] who I was going to be with for the rest of my life.”

Then, once the two of them got closer and learned more about one another beyond the surface, David said there was one quality in particular that allured him. “I didn’t realize what a strong woman she was, and that is what really attracted me to her more than anything,” David admitted. As their relationship grew, there were many other reasons why David’s love for Victoria deepened. “I like a strong woman, and I like the fact that she works hard,” he added. “I like the fact that she’s a great mom.
