Victoria Beckham switched from HIIT to weightlifting, here’s her full exercise routine

Victoria Beckham surprised us all when she shared a snap of herself nailing an overhead squat with an Olympic bar last year. She’s given various interviews about her exercise routine in the past, and it sounded like it once revolved almost entirely around running, so evidence of her new exercise approach was pretty pivotal.

Since then, she’s shared a few pics of herself working out – and she’s clearly progressing. In 2023, she was seen doing tricep dips, and she captioned the snap: ‘I follow my training session which I vary day-to-day to focus on different areas of the body. Today I’m focusing on my upper-body strength, with a combination of resistance-band exercises.’ Spot husband David’s naked cameo in the background…

In a second snap, she spoke about the role of mobility in her training routine. She posted a photo of herself nailing a hip flexor stretch, with the caption: ‘I’m in my strength training phase! Before and after every session, it’s key to mobilise and stretch. Recovery is as important as the work itself!’ She knows the deal.

So, why did Victoria switch to a strength training-first exercise approach? In a bid to prove the benefits of strength training to you, we caught up with Bobby Rich, a performance coach and fitness consultant who has worked with VB for just over two years. Bobby was recruited by VB after she hit a fitness wall.

‘It was becoming apparent to her that the benefits from her own training routines had become minimal,’ he told us. ‘Despite spending daily 90+ minute sessions in the gym she was purely maintaining her fitness levels rather than improving in other meaningful ways. She was ready for a change.’

Victoria was admittedly apprehensive about the whole “lift weights and become the Hulk” narrative (our words, not hers), too.

‘I’ve always been a bit scared of weights, but it turns out I love them,’ Victoria previously told Grazia. ‘I’ve even got those special gloves to wear! It’s good to switch things up and keep your body guessing. I’ve got so much more muscle tone now.’
