Świątek to appoint sparring partner as interim coach, journalist reports
Polish tennis star Iga Świątek is set to name her sparring partner, Tomasz Moczek, as her interim coach, Sport.pl journalist Łukasz Jachimiak reported on Tuesday. The world number one is currently taking a break from the intense demands of elite tennis and searching for a new permanent coach after announcing on Friday that she was parting ways with her coach of the last three years, Tomasz Wiktorowski.
Świątek last appeared on the court on September 5, when she lost resoundingly to Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals of the US Open. She was then scheduled to play in Seoul and then Beijing but withdrew from both.
“I am currently in initial talks with non-Polish coaches as I prepare to take the next step in my career. I’ll update you once I’ve made my choice,” the Polish player stated in an Instagram post last Friday.
She is widely expected to return to action for the season-ending WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which begin on November 2.
