Andy Murray’s former coach claims Carlos Alcaraz’s best level may be better than Jannik Sinner
Spanish tennis ace Carlos Alcaraz and Italian Jannik Sinner have successfully taken over the reins from the Big Three. The two players have shared the four Grand Slam titles this season. While Sinner took both the hard court Majors, Alcaraz won his maiden Roland Garros title and defended his Wimbledon title.
The two players are also enjoying a great rivalry on the men’s tour, with the head-to-head record standing at 5-4 in Alcaraz’s favor. With the two superstars emerging at the same time, comparisons between the two have been inevitable. The latest to do so is Andy Murray‘s former coach Miles Maclagan. Maclagan has claimed that while Sinner is more consistent, Alcaraz is ahead when he is at his best. He praised the Spaniard for his athleticism and shot selection, saying that the former World No.1 rarely gets it wrong.
You discuss the differences between him (Alcaraz) and Sinner and you say Sinner may be more consistent across the board, but Alcaraz’s best level may be better overall. His athleticism is phenomenal, the attitude is first class and his shot selection is very rarely wrong. You wonder if he is having a bit of fun at times, but you wonder if that is permitted in his game.
The comparison comes as Sinner and Alcaraz are set to face each other in the Beijing Open final. This will only be their second meeting in a final with the last coming in Umag 2022. Since then, they have locked horns in either quarterfinals or semifinals.
