Iga Swiatek’s next tournament: All you need to know about Pole’s revised schedule after China Open setback

After her US Open setback, Iga Swiatek is now set to return to the court at the WTA 1000 Wuhan Open on 7th October, a break that is likely to give her enough time to refresh and recharge herself after the last major of the season. The Pole’s revised schedule was shared by her PR manager after she announced her decision to withdraw from the China Open and Korea Open.

Swiatek has had a year of ups and downs marked by a fair share of iconic victories accompanied by a few losses. Following her bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, the 23-year-old reached the quarterfinals of the US Open before losing to eventual runner-up Jessica Pegula. After her US Open loss, Iga Swiatek announced that she would not be participating at the Korea Open and the China Open, which she won last year. Citing personal reasons, she announced her decision to withdraw from the tournament and said (via WTA):

“For personal reasons, I have to withdraw from the China Open in Beijing. I’m very sad because I had a great time there and won last year. I couldn’t wait to go back there. The fans will be able to see great tennis there. I regret I won’t be part of it.”
Last year, Swiatek lost just one set before winning her sixth WTA 1000 title in what was her tournament debut in Beijing. Additionally, this year, she has won four out of the eight WTA 1000 events.

The Polish tennis star could have also been seen playing in Seoul at the Korea Open last week but she also withdrew from the same, citing fatigue as a reason. But, much to her fans’ happiness, the World No.1’s PR manager, Paula Wolecka shed some details on when the Polish tennis star might be making a comeback which happens to be in Wuhan next month. She said (via China org):

“The next tournament for which Iga has registered is the competition in Wuhan. No decisions have been made yet regarding Swiatek’s participation in the Billie Jean King Cup tournament in Malaga, Spain.”
Swiatek had her fair share of victories this year and with her unfortunate US Open exit amongst other things, she is now looking forward to picking up her form and securing her ranking.
