Andy Murray gets green light for major changes to five-star hotel as tennis icon and wife Kim take new hands-on role

The couple applied for permission from Stirling Council for interior alterations to the C-listed venue. SIR Andy Murray has been given the go-ahead to carry out a series of renovations to create more rooms at his five-star hotel.

The double Wimbledon champion, who retired from tennis last month, is carrying out improvements at Cromlix Hotel near his hometown of Dunblane after he and wife Kim took over the running of it from a management firm.

The couple applied for permission from Stirling Council for interior alterations to the C-listed venue to allow for more bedrooms on the first floor.

The works include filling stair voids, creating access for maintenance and removing four non-load bearing partition walls.

The plans for the hotel, which has just been named the best in Scotland, have now been given approval by the local authority after no objections were received.

In a written report, planning officials said: “The proposal seeks changes that will allow for the introduction of new accommodation at first floor level and will remove access to a staircase at ground floor level within the Cromlix Hotel. “The first floor currently consists of office areas, a kitchen space, toilet and a shower room.

“These spaces have been created using the original walls and a number of stud wall partitions.

“All of the original walls are to remain along with the fireplace in the main room, but all of the partition walls will be removed and a new door is to be introduced at this level from the main hallway.

“Overall, the internal changes which will reverse some of the previous works undertaken on this building are considered to enhance its character.”
