Iga Świątek Withdraws from WTA 500 in Tokyo

Polish tennis star Iga Świątek has officially withdrawn from the WTA 500 tournament in Tokyo, slated for October 21-27, a move that continues her recent trend of opting out of high-profile events. Her absence from the entry list comes after her quarterfinal exit at the US Open, where she announced she would also forgo tournaments in Seoul and Beijing for “personal reasons.”

Świątek’s decision to skip the Beijing tournament, which she won the previous year, raised eyebrows as it will lead to a significant loss of ranking points. Her absence from Tokyo has been confirmed, prompting growing concerns among fans and analysts about her competitive future. Currently, she is scheduled to participate only in the Wuhan tournament from October 7-13, as indicated by her manager, Paula Wolecka.

Amid uncertainty about Iga Świątek’s schedule, there is growing speculation regarding her potential return to competitive tennis, particularly for the WTA Finals in Riyadh from November 2-9, a key event for preserving her top ranking. Fans are also curious about her involvement in the Billie Jean King Cup finals, set to occur in Málaga later in November. As the tennis community keeps a close eye on the situation, hopes remain high for her swift return to the court at peak performance.
