“There was an explosion.” Iga Świątek has never been to this place. There is a problem
– The Pole is wise after the injury, but if they could change something now, they certainly wouldn’t play Wimbledon – with these words Bartosz Ignacik shows what stage of Iga Świątek’s career she is at. A moment later he himself points out that for many it is “the most important tournament in the world”. But not for a Polish woman. She had a completely different goal, which was not fully achieved. Today, however, for the first time in her career, she cancels her participation in two major tournaments in a row, and her statements are inconsistent. In addition to all this, there is also the issue of Asians, who were brought down by the tennis elite, and Świątek’s decision literally ruined them. This is where the case of Shuai Peng, forgotten by many, comes into play. Iga Świątek first withdrew from the “500” in Seoul, and then from the “1000” in Beijing. In the second tournament, she would defend the title won last year. This is a completely unprecedented situation – We received two completely different messages – says tennis expert and Canal+ Sport commentator Bartosz Ignacik in an interview with us. He talks about the words of Świątek herself He also tells us about the absurdly high number of withdrawals from Asian tournaments. He points out that the often mentioned tiredness of the season does not have to be the most important reason. The conversation brings back the famous case of the disappearance of Shuai Peng. Should Iga Świątek return to the tournament in Wuhan or skip the rest of the season and rest properly? It is difficult for each of us to respond to this situation. All I can say is that we received two completely different messages. Before Seoul, Iga said that she needed more time to prepare well for the end of the season physically, but already before Beijing we received information that she was withdrawing for personal reasons. We have some kind of dissonance here. Only Iga’s closest camp knows where this absence from Beijing comes from. And now we have a very simple question: will we ever find out? Many stories, not only in sports, but also in life, passed away and no one came back to them, so here we can ask ourselves the question: will anyone from Iga’s camp or the interested person herself ever be able to tell us about the real reasons for the withdrawal of the tournament in Beijing?
