Farewell to the Olympic Games, “a perfect ending” for Murray
Andy Murray played the last match of his career at the Paris Olympics, in doubles with Dan Evans. A huge champion to bow out in 2024, Andy Murray. The three-time Grand Slam winner and two-time Olympic gold medalist went all the way his body could give him, after undergoing hip surgery in 2019. While he never managed to regain his best level, he showed that he had not lost his combativeness by offering the public several epic battles in recent years. After playing the last Wimbledon of his career in July, in doubles alongside his brother Jamie, it was at the Paris Olympic Games that Andy Murray definitively ended his career as a professional tennis player. He reached the quarter-finals of the Olympic tournament, beaten by the American pair Taylor Fritz / Tommy Paul. “I am happy to have been able to stop according to my will, on the court during a deadline that I had set for myself, and at the end of a journey which was fascinating, where we were very close to the matches where we play for the medal.” said Andy Murray in an interview with Tennis Magazine. “We had some big matches with Dan Evans, it was perfect to end the story. I finished as I intended. I had known for several months that this time the moment was coming. I was ready for it.”
