Coco Gauff has already made her feelings clear on Andy Murray in hunt for new coach

Coco Gauff has split from Brad Gilbert after just 14 months together and the American has previously spoken of her admiration for Andy Murray. Coco Gauff has parted ways with her coach Brad Gilbert after a 14-month partnership and failing to defend her U.S. Open title.

While the search for her next coach is on, Gauff has not been shy about expressing her admiration for Andy Murray’s influence on tennis. Despite Murray not being directly linked to the coaching role, his recent retirement from an illustrious career has sparked speculation about him possibly staying in the sport through coaching.

The two-time Wimbledon winner and his mother Judy are well-regarded by Gauff for their advocacy for equality in tennis. Recalling a moment from this year’s Wimbledon, Gauff shared her appreciation for Murray.

Gauff said: “I just watched a video about him correcting reporters on statistics. It’s something that, as a female player, you’ll see a lot where people will be like, ‘This guy was the first player to do this’. “And it’s like, ‘Well, Serena and Venus did it’ or another player did it ages ago. Or like the first American and I’m like, ‘I did it, Jess [Pegula] did it’. I really appreciate him. Not only him, also his mother for everything they’ve done for equality for women’s sports.”

She also praised his determination, adding: “I think his legacy is that he’s just a fighter. The most inspiration I have for him is no matter what court he’s playing, whether it’s Centre Court here or an ITF [event], he’s putting 100 percent effort into that. He’s an icon of the sport and he’s had an incredible career that a lot of people dream of.”

It appears she’d be open to pairing up with Murray in a coaching capacity, and she’s not alone in this sentiment. Tennis star Laura Robson, who clinched Olympic silver alongside Murray in mixed doubles at the 2012 London Games, has named Murray as a potential ace coach and noted that he has shown interest in the role.
