Continuing their successful run of documentary series, Netflix has unveiled plans for a new project documenting the life and career of former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham. The project is set to be produced by Studio 99, the production company owned by Victoria’s husband, David Beckham.
The announcement of this upcoming documentary follows the incredible success of Netflix’s previous effort Beckham, the documentary which focused on the life, career, and personal relationships of David Beckham. Victoria Beckham featured prominently in the documentary, which was well-received by critics and audiences alike. It is likely that Victoria’s involvement in that project endeared her to the idea of a standalone documentary on her own life.
Furthermore, the project will be presided over by Beckham’s own company, Studio 99, which was also responsible for the production of Beckham. At the time of writing, specific details surrounding the documentary are fairly scarce, but it is thought that the project will take a similar route to Beckham, exploring Victoria’s early beginnings, her life as a Spice Girl, as well as her present-day life too.
Speaking about the documentary, David Beckham shared, “I’m really excited about this one with Victoria because she is an amazing woman.” Explaining his deep-rooted admiration for his wife, the football icon continued, “She is a strong, driven, passionate person that has gone from being a Spice Girl, as you all know, and to be respected in this industry is very tough.”
Reportedly, Victoria was initially apprehensive about the idea, but the success of Beckham and her involvement in that project seemed to bring her round to the idea. “It was hard to convince her to do this,” David recalled, ‘but I think she’d been such a big part of the process with Netflix, and she was like, I love these people, and I love the way they work, and if we can work in this way, and we can do this, so it’s an exciting time.”
From her rise to fame during the 1990s, with the groundbreaking girl group Spice Girls, Victoria Beckham carved out a name for herself in a solo sense during the 2000s by launching her eponymous fashion brand. Her impressive career in music, business, and fashion along with David Beckham’s legendary status as footballer made ‘Posh and Becks’ one of the most iconic couples of the period.
Details surrounding the project, with regard to release date and title, are still unknown at this stage. However, the announcement of the documentary is already building excitement among fans of Victoria’s work.
