Tennis legend Andy Murray’s handicap revealed as he prepares for Wentworth pro-am

He’s retired from tennis and now he’s turned his attention to our beautiful game. But what is Andy Murray’s golf handicap?

When the 37-year-old bowed out of the Olympic Games in the men’s doubles quarter-finals, it also brought to an end an astonishing career that saw Murray win 49 titles – including three Grand Slams and two gold medals – and reach the top of the ATP rankings in an era that included the three best players to ever play the sport.

Murray made no secret of his desire to swap his racquet for a set of clubs – and even changed his X bio to read: “I played tennis. I now play golf.”

He even toyed with a second career as a bagman.

“I really like golf, so being a caddie for example on the golf tour would be something I would find exciting,” he explained in a 2021 interview with The Gentleman’s Journal. “To be up close and personal to top golfers – and to learn about another sport like that – and maybe there’s some crossover between the two sports from the mental side and things, and so you might be able to help a golfer.”

But while he was in Paris this summer representing Great Britain, he was asked about his sporting and life goals in retirement, Murray started by saying said he would “try and be a good dad” to his four children and “be at home as much as I can while they’re growing up”, as well as “being around” for his wife, Kim.

He then added: “I would like to try and become a scratch golfer – that’s my sporting goal.”

So how close has he got to that dream?

Well, he’s in the field for the traditional BMW PGA Championship pro-am and celeb-athon – in which he will partner Robert MacIntyre, the reigning Canadian and Scottish Open champion, as well as retired England cricketer James Anderson, and Strictly Come Dancing star Anton du Beke.

MacIntyre said: “Andy is a hero to so many people in Scotland – and across the world – and it’s pretty exciting to be playing alongside him in his BMW PGA Championship debut. He’s been absolutely dedicated to tennis during his incredible career, but it looks like he’s been playing plenty of golf since his retirement, so I’m looking forward to seeing if all that practice has paid off!”

What is Andy Murray’s golf handicap?

Looking at his swing, what would you say it is?

If you said 7, give yourself a pat on the back.

That is what Murray is listed as for the Wentworth showpiece.

A long way to go to scratch, Sir Andy. At least time is on your side…
