Iga Swiatek has a joyful reaction to Magdalena Frech winning WTA Guadalajara

Iga Swiatek took to social media to congratulate her compatriot Magdalena Frech on winning her maiden WTA title. Frech beat Australian qualifier Olivia Gadecki 7-6 (5), 6-4 to lift the Guadalajara Open title at the Pan-American Tennis Center.

Frech began the year by reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open. However, it was in the summer that she enjoyed a steady rise in her career. The Polish star made her first WTA singles final at the Prague Open, where she lost to compatriot Magda Linette in straight sets. In August, she reached her maiden hard court quarterfinals in Monterrey, Mexico.

Frech arrived at Guadalajara after suffering a first-round exit at the US Open. She began her campaign with a straight sets win against Emina Bektas before coming from a set down to beat American Ashlyn Krueger 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the second round. She then beat Marina Stakusuc and upset World No. 4 seed Caroline Garcia 7-6(4), 7-5 in the semifinals.

Against Gadecki in the final, Frech made sure she remained in control of the match despite the Australian forcing the first set to a tiebreak. In the second set, she rallied from 0-2 down to win the WTA 500 title in less than two hours.
