ARYNA SABALENKA OUTSHIPS IGA SWIATEK WITH CONSTANT PERFORMANCE, SAYS BRETT CONNORS

Former world number one Jimmy Connors’ son Brett has praised world number two Aryna Sabalenka, saying she is more consistent than her rival, Poland’s Iga Swiatek. Sabalenka has once again proven her authority in women’s tennis. She won the US Open after defeating American Jessica Pegula in the final in straight sets 7-5, 7-5. It was the third Grand Slam title of her career and the second this season. She also won the Australian Open earlier this year after defeating China’s Zheng Qinwen in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the final. Brett Connors told media: “Sabby [Aryna Sabalenka] is just likeable, even when she doesn’t win the match she’s funny, she doesn’t take herself too seriously, she can laugh at herself. She seems to cope well when something’s going against her, she’s able to bounce back from it and make amends. Last year she lost the US Open final to Coco [Gauff] and then she went to Australia determined and just got through it She fought in the field and won her second Australian Open. She probably wanted to get revenge for last year’s US Open and roll over the field again. So I think Iga has won five Slams, Sabby has won three, but Iga has four of which she won at Roland Garros and the US Open ’22, and I think she has only reached one quarterfinal at a Grand Slam since 2022 other than RG.”
