Since retiring, I feel a real freedom
After Roger Federer’s retirement in 2022, this year saw the end of the career of one of the greatest players of the last two decades, Andy Murray. The Briton played his last official match alongside Dan Evans at the Paris Olympics and since then he has been enjoying the retired life that seems to delight him for the moment: ” Since my retirement, I feel real freedom and I have a lot of time to do what I want.
I can spend time with my children and I have the opportunity to play golf or go to the gym, depending on my preferences. It’s really enjoyable and I hadn’t planned on it.
“I thought retirement was going to be tough, that I would miss tennis a lot and want to get back on a tennis court. So far, it’s been exactly the opposite,” he told the BBC .
Spending time with his children is what makes him happiest
The most positive aspect of his retirement is that Sir Andy no longer has to separate from his children: ” In recent years, what has always been difficult for me is that there has always been a feeling of guilt linked to my actions.
When I went on a three or four week trip, I felt guilty about leaving my kids at home or being away from my wife for a long time. However, when I was home with the kids, I was moving around with them all the time and spending a lot of time on my feet after training.
