Scots stars Bob MacIntyre and Andy Murray team up at golf tournament

SCOTTISH sporting stars Robert MacIntyre and Andy Murray are set to team up at a prestigious golf tournament.

The BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am, which sees professional golfers and celebrities combine forces, will be held at Wentworth Club in Surrey this year.

It comes after Murray retired from tennis in the summer after a run into the quarter finals of the men’s doubles at the Paris Olympics alongside partner Dan Evans.

Now, the Scots tennis legend will pair up with his compatriot MacIntyre at the event, which runs from September 17 to September 22.

After Murray’s participation was announced, Macintyre tagged Murray and posted the announcement with the caption “new balls please” (above) accompanied with Scotland flag emojis.

MacIntyre also said: “Andy is a hero to so many people in Scotland – and across the world – and it’s pretty exciting to be playing alongside him in this BMW PGA Championship debut.

“He’s been absolutely dedicated to tennis during his incredible career, but it looks like he’s been playing plenty of golf since his retirement, so I’m looking forward to seeing if all that practice has paid off!”

In July, MacIntyre won the Scottish Open. He said at the time: “Everyone knows I wear my heart on my sleeve, I’m through and through Scottish and it’s the only event I got to as a kid to watch.

“My mum and dad used to take me and a few of my mates to Loch Lomond to watch the Scottish Open … I wanted the Scottish Open and I got it.”
