Jack Draper is an excellent young British tennis player. But he only really became known to the international public through this video. In September 2023, Andy Murray published a 19-second clip of how he chauffeured his young colleague back to London late in the evening after the Davis Cup in Manchester. Draper had already had a few beers too many, drank another and sang along to the iconic hit “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by Scottish band The Proclaimers in the car. Murray’s reaction: He stuck his middle finger into the camera. “The boys these days,” wrote the doyen of British tennis with a wink, “three and a half hours of it on the way home.” The clip doesn’t exactly portray Draper favorably, drunkenly singing in his floppy hat and barely hitting the notes. But he didn’t hold it against Murray for publishing the video. On the contrary. «Andy is my idol. I would have been overjoyed if I had known when I was ten that I would be going on a ride with him one day.”
