Andy Murray insists he’s NOT missing tennis and claims that retirement has been ‘the complete opposite’ to what he expected’, as he reveals the sport he’s been playing instead

Andy Murray has revealed that he has swapped tennis for up golf and claimed that retirement is proving to be ‘the complete opposite’ to what he expected.

The 37-year-old called time on his illustrious career in July following his and Dan Evans’ exit from the men’s doubles competition at the Paris Olympics in July.

Murray bade a long farewell to the sport that he saw him become a national hero, having spent years battling through injury before revealing that 2024 would be his last on the tour.

Like many former greats before him, Murray feared walking away from the game would be difficult but he has revealed that those concerns – for the time being at least – were unfounded.

‘Since I’ve stopped, I feel really free and have got lots of time to do whatever it is I want,’ he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. ‘I can dedicate time to my children and have free time to play golf or go to the gym on my own terms.

‘So far, it has been the complete opposite to what I was thinking.’

Murray claimed three Grand Slam titles during one of the most competitive eras of men’s tennis. His second triumph famously ended Britain’s 77-year wait for a men’s singles winner at Wimbledon.

The former star added another SW19 win to his collection for good measure, as well as a pair of Olympic gold medals.
