Top-seeded Iga Świątek defeated Russian Ludmila Samsonova (No. 16) 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals
The top seed, Iga Świątek, defeated Russian Ludmila Samsonova (No. 16) 6:4, 6:1 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the US Open Grand Slam tournament in New York. Her next rival will be American Jessica Pegula. This was the fourth fight between Świątek and Samsonowa and the Pole’s fourth victory. The leader of the world ranking also has a better record against Pegula: she has been on top six times in nine matches so far. The two players last met in the final of the season-ending WTA Finals tournament in 2023, and then the American won only one game. Świątek is fighting on the Flushing Meadows courts to repeat the feat from 2022, when she triumphed in this tournament.
