Tennis: Iga Swiatek feels supported by »Ted Lasso« at the US Open
The density of celebrities at Grand Slam tournaments is high, and even more so in the stands of the US Open. The top seed Iga Świątek was especially happy because of one actor in the audience.
One might think that Iga Świątek doesn’t need any special support at the US Open. The tennis world number one is aiming for her sixth Grand Slam tournament victory. In the round of 16, the 23-year-old Pole won 6:4, 6:1 against the Russian Ljudmila Samsonowa and has still not lost a set in the tournament.
Nevertheless, Świątek was thrilled when she spotted Jason Sudeikis in the audience, creator and protagonist of the character Ted Lasso, the mustached US college football coach who is supposed to save an English football club in the series of the same name. “I actually tried not to look at the screens, but I saw it tonight when I was looking at the referee’s chair,” said Świątek, who added that she liked the “positive message” of the Emmy-winning Apple TV series.
