Emma Raducanu ‘gave Andy Murray a different reason for mixed doubles Wimbledon withdrawal from the public excuse’

urray, 37, was given an emotional send-off after playing in the men’s doubles with brother Jamie on Thursday night.

But that wasn’t supposed to be the end of the road, with Murray and Raducanu forming a British dream team to take part in the mixed doubles.

They were due to face Marcelo Arevalo and Zhang Shuai, with that match scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

But just hours before they were due to take to the court, Raducanu dramatically withdrew.

She was understood to have informed two-time Wimbledon champion Murray she was feeling soreness in her wrist.

Raducanu underwent surgery on BOTH of her wrists last year.

In a statement, the former US Open winner said: “Unfortunately I woke up with stiffness in my right wrist this morning, so therefore I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles tonight.

“I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but got to take care.”
