Iga Swiatek saves three set points to edge past Kamilla Rakhimova in the US Open 2024 opening round

World No.1 Iga Swiatek came through a tricky opening encounter against Kamilla Rakhimova at the US Open. The Pole won 6-4, 7-6 to book her place in the second round.

Swiatek hit five aces and converted three of six break points to secure victory. However, she only made 48% of her first serves, an area that could be improved.

Despite her struggles on serve, Swiatek was on course to win the match comfortably in straight sets. However, Rakhimova broke the top seed when she was serving for the match at 5-4 in the second set.

The Russian player looked set to win the second set as she held three set points in the tiebreak. However, Swiatek showed why she sits at the top of the rankings by winning the last five points to close out the match.
