Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek and more shine at Stars of the Open
Sixteen of the world’s best tennis players—past and present—took the court in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday night for Stars of the Open presented by Chase. It was an evening of laughter under the lights as they played 10-point tiebreaks, and the stars were mic’d up, putting their personalities on display along with their world-class tennis skills.
2022 US Open champion Iga Swiatek and Sebastian Korda, the reigning champ in Washington, D.C., faced off against the duo of Wimbledon finalists Matteo Berrettini (2021) and Jasmine Paolini (2024), for the first match of the evening. The Italians came out on top, but all four players agreed it was a blast to play some points in front of the New York crowd before the main draw kicks off on Monday.
Gabriela Sabatini played in Ashe for the first time alongside fellow Argentine Juan Martin del Potro, defeating Caroline Wozniacki and Andy Roddick in the penultimate match of the night, before 2022 US Open semifinalist Frances Tiafoe and 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens beat 2024 Wimbledon doubles champion Taylor Townsend and actor Boris Kodjoe, who played college tennis at VCU.
