Iga Swiatek could copy Rafael Nadal’s tactics at the US Open
Iga Swiatek is about to play the 2024 US Open, a tournament in which she hopes to achieve a great result after the difficulties of recent weeks. The world number 1 is clearly the most consistent player of the WTA tour and is the strongest on red clay, while struggling to play at the same level on other surfaces during the season.
The Polish player won the French Open this year playing a great tennis, while at the Wimbledon Championships she was eliminated prematurely. Everyone expected Iga to win the gold medal easily at the Paris Olympics, but Swiatek did not manage the pressure and nerves well when he came out in the semi-finals.
Iga burst into tears in front of the reporters after that loss, but she recovered well by winning a valuable bronze medal on her favourite surface. Swiatek didn’t shine particularly well in Cincinnati last week, she suffered in all matches and was defeated quite clearly by Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals. The World No.1 will have to play much better if she wants to win the 2024 US Open, a complicated tournament that is played in extreme climatic conditions. Swiatek won in New York in 2022, while last year she was beaten by Jelena Ostapenko.
