US Open Draw Revealed: Who Could Iga Świątek Face?
The draw for the 2024 US Open has been announced, and Poland’s top tennis stars are set for an exciting challenge in New York. World No. 1 Iga Świątek, the 2022 US Open champion, will begin her campaign against a qualifier in the first round. A potential second-round clash could see her facing either another qualifier or Australia’s Daria Saville, currently ranked 93rd in the world.
Świątek’s quarter of the draw includes some formidable opponents, such as Americans Jessica Pegula (No. 6 seed) and Danielle Collins (No. 11 seed), as well as Russia’s rising star Mirra Andreeva (No. 21 seed). In the same half of the draw, Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina, seeded No. 4, also poses a potential challenge.
In the men’s draw, Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, seeded No. 7, will also start his journey against a qualifier. In the second round, he might face Australia’s Jordan Thompson (ranked 33rd) or France’s Constant Lestienne (ranked 110th). Hurkacz shares his quarter of the draw with Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz, adding further intrigue to his path.
Other Polish players in the singles draw include Magda Linette, who will face 16-year-old American wildcard Iva Jovic, and Magdalena Fręch, who is set to take on Belgium’s Greet Minnen. Maks Kaśnikowski, who recently secured his spot by defeating France’s Antoine Escoffier in the final qualifying round, will also be competing.
The main tournament kicks off on August 26, with the women’s singles final scheduled for September 7 and the men’s final on September 8. The defending champions, American Coco Gauff and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, will be looking to retain their titles.
